Moi! I am Iiris, and I am a Finnish language teacher!
I began learning Finnish as an adult, and what started as a personal interest gradually became a life-changing journey. At the age of 22, I studied at the University of Helsinki as a visiting student, where I first began studying Finnish in earnest. What was initially meant to be a one-year experience completely transformed my plans and inspired me to pursue advanced studies in Finland.
Through years of dedicated study, I continued learning independently and later achieved the highest possible score in all four skills of the YKI intermediate examination, which qualified me for graduate studies conducted in Finnish. I then enrolled in the Master’s Program in Finnish and Other Finno-Ugric Languages at the University of Turku, where I completed my degree in 2025.

Since 2023, I have been teaching Finnish to international students in both online and on-campus settings. Through Learn Finnish with Iiris, I now offer private online lessons and develop learning materials designed to make Finnish more accessible to learners around the world.
I understand that language learning is not always easy. It can be joyful, challenging, and sometimes lonely. As both a specialist and a fellow language learner, my goal is to support each student with empathy, guidance, and confidence throughout their own Finnish learning journey.
